Our Builder

Hi, My name is Russell Duke, and I am the Crew Chief for this Moto Guzzi land speed record attempt. I am thrilled to be a part of this effort. I have spent the last several months building up the motor for the bike we will use to contest the 1000cc P-PP record. It is a hot motor, built with old fashioned hot-rodding techniques. It is completely legal, which isn’t to hard when you consider that the rules basically state that the bike must ‘look stock’.

I got my first motorcycle when I was 8 years old, and haven’t been without one since. I currently own a 1974 Moto Guzzi V7 Sport/Lemans III Hybrid/Mutant/Special and a 1981 Ducati 900ss. These bikes make me feel good. I love the way they look, sound, and feel when I tear around the hill country outside of Austin. I used to be a motorcycle mechanic, but I went back to school and became an engineer so I could afford the bikes I was working on. I still am out in the shop most any night of the week, tweaking and tuning one of my bikes or one of my friend’s bikes.

We will be in Bonneville soon. Our team is unique in that many of us have never met each other in person. This team was formed as a spin-off of the Moto Guzzi online discussion group. So far, all of the logistics and communication have been handled online. Hopefully, all of our planning and work will pay off and we will come home with a record. Then we will start planning for next year.
